The Genesis Block
Let's figure out the blockchain together
Welcome
If you’re reading this, you are truly an unexpected guest but thank you for showing up and I hope you enjoy your stay.
Building Blocks is a place where I hope to share everything new I learn about crypto, blockchain and web3.
I am by no means an expert and still relatively new to the space. However I’m passionate about it and consider myself an ambassador to initiate the uninitiated like These are the articles past me was looking for.
I intended for this newsletter to serve two main purposes.
A place for me to learn in public.
To pay forward all the people on the internet who made the effort to write the pieces that I have read and learned from.
Where I Came From
Based in New York, I’m a career generalist and who’s worked various roles across a variety of industries.
I’ve worked in sports and entertainment as culture strategist. I helping brands like Nike, the NFL and Disney mine insights to best serve their fan bases. I take credit for everything you like and deny responsibility for anything you think sucks from them.
Later I taught myself how to code and worked at multiple startups in the transport and healthcare spaces. My motivation was to join teams building products I believed would have a positive impact the world. Also the money was good.
Recently I have worked on sales and partnership teams making connections for businesses trying to grow. If there’s anything I enjoy more than building products, its building relationships.
How I Got Here
At an blockchain event earlier this year, I was approached by a gentleman who asked me ‘How much bitcoin do you own?’ Before I could fix my mouth to answer he said, ‘Whatever you say it’s not enough, buy more’ and walked away. He wasn’t wrong. The price at the time was $49,000, today it sits at the precipice of $100,000.
Something clicked that night and it wasn’t based solely that interaction. The energy in the room was contagious. I met developers working on ideas that I had no idea were possible. They were so convinced that I was convinced too. They were painting what the world could be and it was exciting. In a time where there is a general malaise in society, these crypto bros were all optimism and energy.
Prior to that I had written off web3 and crypto as a scam like a true normie (if crypto bros are wizards, normie are muggles). I don’t know how many Web3 job offers I had dismissed as engineer with the same disdain as I did Nigerian prince emails. Silly me.
So I came home and started learning about blockchain. I read was The Bitcoin Standard by Saifdean Ammous. A book not so much about Bitcoin as it is about the history of money. Things were starting to click. Those mad men were actually prophets.
Next I read Chris Dixons “Read, Write, Own” . In it he lays the dimensions of the new era of the internet we are entering. It made me think of all the great stuff the internet has given me and hopefully I’ve given others that went uncompensated. Blockchain would restore the original promise of the internet.
Since then I’ve done more reading, attended more events, and doom scrolled crypto twitter amongst the degens. There’s no turning back
Where We Are Going
Blockchain as an industry is still nascent but at the same time there is so much going on and that can be intimidating. My goal is to write about the new and interesting things I discover.
If you are new to blockchain I am here to introduce to topics is a digestible way and if you are a veteran perhaps share things you are yet unaware and may wish to explore.
Not even Satoshi himself knows about everything going on in blockchain. Things here move quickly and the industry reveals new ideas and amazing talent daily. Blink and you might miss it
How We Are Getting There
As I write this I have no audience other than myself. But I do have a lot of time to learn and intend to share that knowledge as quickly and as often as possible.
If this ever grows will do my best to make sure I get at least two articles out a week but don’t quote me on that.
In Conclusion
If you have made it this far, again thank you. I hope your visit to my publication teaches you at least one thing you find interesting. If I can manage that I have far exceeded even my own expectations
I will be extremely flattered if you subscribe and do my best to continue to serve whatever inspired that decision. But no pressure.
